Cargo Port Drainage

Cargo Ports

Shipping Port Drains

Truck terminals and shipping ports see significant tractor-trailer and forklift traffic which means trench drain systems in terminals need to be HS20 or HS25 load rated and wide enough to capture large water flow from a concrete lot.

Terminal buildings, where fork truck traffic with concentrated wheel loads are high, have lower drainage requirements. For this application, 6″ wide drainage systems with cast iron grates and frames are commonly used.

Considerations

  • Heavy Equipment
The constant traffic of forklifts, trucks and other heavy equipment requires trench systems to have Class E or Class F grates to hold up to the weight.
  • The Bigger They Are
Trucking terminals positioned at a low point of a large surface area require larger trench drain systems to handle the flow capacity. Interiors and warehouse buildings don’t require as much coverage and can get away with narrower drains.
  • Proper Planning
Trench drains designed for simple, straight runs don’t adapt to T intersections or angles. For complex layouts, trench forming systems and frame-and-grate systems will save time and money by eliminating on-site fabrications.
